In pleading, "To the damage."
The technical name of that clause of the writ, declaration, or, more commonly, the complaint, which contains a statement of the plaintiffs money loss, or the damages which he claims. Fed.R.Civil P. 8(a).
Such clause informs an adversary of the maximum amount of the claim asserted without being proof of actual injury or of liability. Natale v. Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., 8 App.Div. 781, 186 N.Y.S.2d 795, 796
